The Columbia Tusculum Community Council received a letter from the mayor's office in response to a letter we sent regarding the runway strengthening. We had raised concerns over the lack of community input into the process. In response, the mayor indicated that his administration is intent on increasing the rated runway strength to 120,000 pounds, and it seems that they are not interested in hearing input from the community or the Lunken Airport Oversite and Advisory Board, which was set up last year to provide just such input to City Council. A PDF of the letter can be found here.
As a reminder, we will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on airport issues on Tuesday, November 27 at 7pm at the Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum (3738 Eastern Ave.). Please come with questions prepared.
UPDATE: The CTCC Steering Committee has communicated with the Mayor's office (11/27/2001) and has received an update on the mayor's position, which includes a retraction of the previous letter and an indication that the Mayor is committed to listening to community input before moving forward with increased service at Lunken.

The 2001 Historic Homes Tour was a great success, raising approximately $6000 for the community. The day started out bleakly, with cold rain falling in the morning. However, the rain stopped at about 12:30 and by 1:30 the clouds had parted and the sky was a beautiful blue. Over 550 people attended the tour, and all who attended enjoyed the beautiful homes, the art exhibit, and the restoration fair.

Special thanks to all of the volunteers and musicians who worked on the tour, both planning and the day of the event.
